My areas of interest are all based around my fascination with urban environments and the ways in which people interact and exchange within these loaded and multi-dimensional spaces. My research background is in 20th Century European history and philosophy, at the crossroads with politics and sociology. I work with video, sound, text and photography to explore these spaces, with a focus on the role of the document and the archive in forming narratives. Of particular interest to me is the development of artistic practices in the former Eastern Bloc countries, both before and after 1990.
Beginning in Auckland and then continuing on in Berlin and now London, I have shown work and performed in New Zealand, Germany, Turkey, the UK and the USA. My writing has been published by EyeContact, ArtAll, Appliance and SoundBleed among others. From May 2011-June 2013 I also ran the Selektives Hören Archiv, an online archive documenting parts of Berlin’s experimental music scene.
